Local Priorities Cycle theft Update

Local Priorities Cycle theft Update

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Cycle theft, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

We are currently investigating an incident of an electric scooter theft which occurred on the evening of Sunday 18 October 2026. Approximately 9pm the victim visited the Sainsburys located on Burton Stone Lane in York. Having left the electric scooter outside for a few seconds he returned to find it has been stolen. If you witnessed this occur, or know who may be responsible please contact us on telephone 101 quoting reference 12260205275. To find out how to keep your cycle, vehicle or any property safe please log onto www.northyorkshire.police.uk for our latest crime prevention advice. Always dial 999 in an emergency

Cycle theft should be reported to us immediately on discovery. Delay in doing so can mean missed opportunities to recover your bike and prosecute the offender.

You can also register your bike with www.bikeregister.com which you can do for free using your frame number. This system is used nationally by most police forces up and down the country to check recovered suspected stolen cycles against. You would be surprised at the amount of suspected stolen cycles we recover from suspects and properties during searches where we cannot establish ownership, thus preventing us from proving its stolen and being able to return it to the owner.

If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
